A lid and base box is a rigid box made of two separate pieces: a lid that lifts straight off, and a base that holds the product. There’s no hinge and no magnet — the lid simply fits over the base, and the fit is what makes it feel right or feel cheap. The Way a Lid Settles
Pick up a well-made lid and base box and you can feel it before you can explain it: the lid glides down, slows for a moment as the air inside has somewhere to go, then settles flush. That feeling isn’t luck. It comes from how closely the lid is cut to the base — get it wrong in either direction and the box gives itself away.
Cut the lid too close to the base and it drags — your customer has to wrestle it open, and the printed edge can scuff or tear in the process. Cut it too loose and the box looks cheap on a shelf and can pop open in a shipping carton before it ever reaches them.
We aim for a fit with just a fraction of a millimetre of clearance between lid and base — close enough that closing the box has a slight, satisfying resistance, loose enough that one hand can still lift the lid off cleanly.

We will clearly explain which production tools are needed, who pays for them, and who owns them before you place the order. If you pay for the production tools, they belong to you. If Lipack pays for them, they stay ours — standard in the industry — but you can buy them from us if we agree on terms.
We run a small test order alongside your current supplier before you switch over completely, and get your approval on the very first completed boxes before full production.

Yes, but it depends on the finishes you choose. Plain board and paper with water-based ink and an aqueous (water-based) coating adds no plastic layer. Hot foil stamping and soft-touch or anti-scratch lamination do. Tell us at the brief stage if a plastic-free build matters for your sustainability claims, and we’ll build your finish list around it.
Sustainability & Compliance
